Well, I never really went anywhere, really.
I haven't posted anything in a long time - about three years, really. Most of my photography's home has been my own facebook page for quite awhile.
Where have I been?
Well, I lived in Long Island, New York, around three years ago, when I last contributed to DeviantArt. Around that time, I was getting in shape, after having lost around 100 pounds or so. Since that time I've lost and gained 40 pounds past that point, and now I'm pretty much just average. It was what consumed my life for many years, the obsession with "bettering myself". The aesthetics of self and the perception of such can be a tricky thing when ones passions and talents lie in mainly aesthetic expression. It becomes hard to divorce oneself from the idea of self as a creation. It can be a driving but also a destructive idea - we all have our limits and we can betray who and what we are for an ideal we put above our own nature. I'm happy to be where I am now, and not what I used to be, at one point in time, but I'm trying to just live and enjoy life as best as I can now.
While still in New York, I began a new journey that put me in a band that turned into another band, into a band that moved across the country from New York to Portland, OR, where I currently live. That in itself is a long story, but I basically came to a standstill, feeling trapped by my circumstances and history. The frontman of my band had the plan to move already, and planned to move regardless of how the rest of the band felt, when the time came. When that time came, three out of four of us were willing to go.
That took quite a lot to manage. I took my office job and turned it from an "in-office" job to a work at home remote based job, so that I could move. I had to leave behind a whole lot of friends and contacts I had made in college and beyond. I had to, in the necessity of four people traveling from one coast to another in two cars, leave or rid myself of a lot of physical possessions. I sold all of my DVDs, games, guitars, furniture, my own car. It was a cleansing experience. We drove across the country in about six days - four people, two cars and one trailer, traveling at 55mph. Photos of that will be posted eventually. I've also cut a 50-60 minute documentary of our experience going coast to coast. That will see the "light of the internet" one day, hopefully sooner than later.
I now live in Portland, OR. I've since left that band, and have been away from playing live music for about a year and a half - something I currently miss, but whether or not that opportunity presents itself to me is something that remains to be seen. I've found myself in the first (and hopefully last) meaningful relationship of my life, and live together with this wonderful woman in a cozy apartment in Southeast Portland. We have a wonderful male black cat (Norwegian Forest Cat) named Tingle, that there will be pictures of down the road posted on here. I'm the video manager/director for Banana Stand Media (bananastandmedia.com), which puts out mixed and mastered live-recorded albums for local, vital artists in the Portland area, perhaps soon to expand to more West Coast territories. I produce 3+ camera videos of the live performances, as well as take the photos for the album art.
Life is alright, altogether. I'll be steadily posting thing from the last three years or so in the coming months. Hope you guys enjoy some of what I've done and where I've been. Ciao.
